As part of the Meridian Artists' Co-Op's  Outreach Programs the following classes/workshops are scheduled:

Due to  unforeseeable circumstances , Rebecca Benson's classes "Learning how to Use Your DSLR Camera" and "Learning How to Photograph Your Artwork Professionally" that were originally scheduled in February,  will have to be postponed until March.  We will announce the new dates as soon as possible.

"How To Use Your DSLR Camera"
Class by Rebecca Benson

Rebecca Benson is teaching a workshop on basic DSLR camera operation.  A DSLR is a digital camera with changeable lens (i.e. Canon Digital Rebel or a Nikon 40D, etc.).
The purpose of this workshop is to teach basic camera operations so you can take your DSLR off automatic settings and stop shooting it like it's a VERY expensive "point & shoot" camera.
Rebecca will go over the basic controls then explain white balance, ISO, exposure, bracketing, and how to control your depth of field by controlling your aperture and shutter speed in order to get a good sharp picture or a blurred non-distracting background, depending on what the focus of the picture is.  These will be the basics that will allow you to control the camera to get it to produce the picture that you are trying to take, instead of hoping that the "auto" setting gets it right.
Rebecca usually teaches the basics through a series of quick comparison exercises that lets you see hands-on what the controls do.  In this class you will be learning how to control your camera through a series of simple hands-on demonstrations.  Take a picture, change the setting she tells you to change, take the same picture again, then compare the two pictures so you see exactly what the setting does.  This "visual" technique is usually the easiest way for most people to learn what all those buttons on your camera do. If you are the kind of person who enjoys reading technical manuals and actually understand them, this may not be the class for you.  If you already know how to shoot your DSLR on "manual" mode, this class is not for you.  If you have a fancy camera and keep it set on "automatic" settings and feel like you aren't taking full advantage of the camera's capabilities, then you will probably benefit from this workshop.

For this workshop, you will need a digital SLR camera and lens, a fully charged battery, a clean memory card, and your owner's manual.

Rebecca has a couple of extra cameras available if you are interested in the workshop but have not purchased a DSLR yet.  (If you want to use one of these cameras, please check with Rebecca before registering to make sure she has not already promised her "loaner" cameras.)
