Doris is one of the founding Directors of the Co-Op.
Doris McKinney of Meridian, Mississippi started painting when
she retired from the United Postal Service in 2003.
Doris explains that art is her passion and she
works daily in one of three mediums: oil, pastels or watercolors.
She has taken oil lessons from Greg Cartmell, a well-known artist in the Southeast area;
a pastel workshop from John Marshall, professor of art at MCC and later took a semester of art with John that included
pastel, charcoal, colored pencil and pencil. She has taken a workshop in oils from Sammy Britt, a retired professor
at Delta State University and watercolor workshops from Wyatt Waters, Don Andrews and Terry Cherry. Doris has
taken an oil painting taught by JoAnn Williams Walker, a well known Florida oil painter. She has taken
a pastel workshop from Ed Dyer, a well-known pastelist from New Orleans.
Doris also does paper mache'
art. She makes life size figures and animals, as viewed in her examples of artwork.
Doris is a member of
The South Mississippi Art Association and shows her work at the Kress Gallery in Hattiesburg, MS. Doris is also a member
of the Meridian Museum of Art Artists' Club and the Alabama Pastel Society.
Doris' oil painting "Ginger
Bloom" was chosen to be in a juried show at William Carey University in Hattiesburg, MS in 2006. In 2007, one of
her acrylics, "Resting Sea Gull" was also juried in.
Doris' art has sold in Florida, Louisiana, Minnesota,
Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina and Wisconsin.
