My interest in painting began when my oldest
daughter, Janet, was only eleven. That year for Christmas the only thing she asked for was an oil painting set and an
easel .... with no knowledge as how to use either. The following January, we enrolled Janet in a private art class
and the rest is history.
After
earning a degree in art, Janet is now teaching art in a private school. It was through the many wonderful years
of watching Janet paint that I, myself, became interested in art; but I was held back from joining her in her endeavors due
to the responsibilites of family and career.
In 2000, my
husband and I sold our business and retired. It was at our retirement party that Janet handed me an art book with a
note saying, "Now you have time." I must admit that the thought was almost frightening. But the desire
to paint was so strong, that like a "brave heart", I joined the painters group at the Meridian Senior Citizen Center.
Now seven years later, I am still painting.
I enjoy
working in both the oil and watercolor mediums. I am also fortunate enough to have my own studio.
Artist's Statement: I
am blessed that God has given me this wonderful world of Art. I strive for my paintings to reflect the beauty of nature.
God's gifts are great to all who will stop and appreciate them. Trees, flowers, fields, oceans, rivers, streams,
... an early morning sky, so soft in the wake of day....the day giving way to evening and its brilliant sunsets; all we have
to do is behold what the Master Painter has given us everyday of our lives.
