A new transplant to Mississippi from her native California coast Diane Oliver remembers her art school training in San Diego, the city where her deceased father-in-law, Martin W. Oliver, had moved to at the end of WWII. He was a former resident of Meridian. She and her husband Martin W.Oliver II arrived here after traveling across the US, stopping to visit friends, and were impressed to stay.
A quiet and introspective artist, Diane has a divine calling on her life. “Seeing works of art should energize the soul,” she says, “and my goal is to produce images that are inspired from the spiritual realm rather than the mind or the five physical senses. The whole creative process is a journey into God. It is the discovery of who I am, where I came from, and what my life’s purpose is.”
Trained in most mediums of the visual arts, from pre-press graphics to sculpture, Diane has spent years sharpening her skills to avoid becoming a “mediocre copy of another artist’s genius.” She desires that each piece turn into a special gift, a treasure with eternal value. “Aside from raw God-given talent, success for me comes from confidence in my experience, in my tools, in study, and much observation!” “I want my art to speak for me, as in, ‘ A picture is worth a thousand words.’”~Diane
